Tuning the tv antenna

I use antenna point.com or TV Fool, they give the direction of transmitters from the zip code I'm at. From that I point my antenna in that direction, never a problem and always a good HD picture.

Double post

I mounted a boat compass in the trailer so that I know which way the trailer is facing. Using http://transition.fcc.gov/mb/engineering/dtvmaps/ I can figure out which direction the transmitting towers are in relation to the trailer.

Umm.. I think I resemble that remark!!

Look at which direction front of antenna head other campers have theirs pointed.

I usually turn it the way others have theirs then scan.

Be sure your winegard BATWING antenna has the dipoles added for better UHF reception. Should look like this GOOGLE photo...


Also be sure you are pointing the antenna in the proper direction. The antenna shown here is pointing to the RIGHT of the photo.

We too have the SURELOCK meter but it does pick up signals from other sources. We always know where to expect to find the HDTV signals so will peak up in that direction.


Another trick I do is after I have the BATWING Antenna pointed and start the TV SCAN if I don't start seeing DIGITAL TV SIGNALS being counted right away within the first 15% of the count I will stop scanning and move the antenna abit one direction or the other and then restart the scan... My VIZIO HDTV takes forever to complete its required TV SCAN...

Well what is "silly" is that it seems everyone refers to that wall plate as a booster when in fact it has no signal boost capability at all ... the amp is in the antenna head and all that wall plate does is provide power to the the amp in the head. If you want additional signal boost replace that non-amplified wall plate with a Winegard SensarPro that can amplify (and attenuate) the signal by as much as +/- 10 db.

There are several sites and apps which will help you orient your antenna. Here's one.

No insult & Not silly q at all I've forgot to turn on booster several times , but I find that rotating it makes a difference in remote areas . I wonder if adding a second booster help?

The Winegard Sensar pro amp with peaking signal is worth every penny. Great amp and you can peak your signal easily. Has a numerical display.
