Using a infrared thermometer on shiny wheels

I finally got a infrared gun and was reading about emissivity , or false reading on shiny objects. Where do you guys with shiny wheels get your hub temp’s from?
Also what temp’s should I expect to see on a 80F ambient day with little braking before the reading?

Thanks for any info you can share

  • I take two temps on each wheel, one on the brake bub and two on the tire itself. Naturally brake hubs will be hotter than tires. Temps on all hubs should be pretty close to each other, same with the tires. If one temp is much higher than the others then you have an issue with that hub or tire. Cannot tell you what temps to look for as mine will vary according to speed, outside temp, weather etc. Goodluck.
