Got a question; I’ve loaded up my 37’ Class A and took it over some scales. I inflated the tires to the appropriate tire pressure for the 235/80R22.5 LRG tires.What would a safe operating temperature using an infrared thermometer gun when I check them during a gas stop?

My tires have usually run at around 110/120. 275/65 R15 LR-D

On an Arizona 4th of July I guarantee the reading will lighten your foot. Yet tires endure 160F pavement. Be aware of inequality especially with inner tires. Shoot the bearing caps on the front if you can see them.

Temps will vary a LOT depending on speed and ambient temps. I've seen 150+ but 120ish is typical. What you are looking for with temps is the outlier. One tire much hotter than the rest. Ten degrees variation is common. Inside duals run a bit warmer than outside. Sunny side runs warmer than shaded side. On a crowned road the right side will run a bit warmer too.

I have seen as high as 130 in the dessert.I saw 160 once when there was grease on the brakes.

Like it was said by another, the thing to watch for s the odd one.

If you cannot smell them, they are good to go...

Check them all. If they are all about the same temp, you are good. If one is appreciably hotter than the others, you have a problem.

Too many variables, yes. I have one of those "guns"...I aim it at the treads of all 6 tires. What I am looking for is a large DIFFERENCE in temperatures.

If I find one tire is MUCH hotter than the others, I check the air pressure.Add air. Then, at the next stop, check them again. If I have a problem, it's off to a tire store.

I temp mine on the sidewall near the tread...easiest spot for the inside dual tire. 120-130 is my norm and a good crosswind can create a 20 degree difference side to side...110/130. You are looking for a single tire that is hotter than the norm. I also temp my wheel bearings and brakes.

Just for fun, on a clear day point it up and see what temperature you get...my lowest is -15F which is 30,000+' feet.
