- larry_barnhartExplorerI have used our gun to check the hubs and same story without much braking and the temps were the same as the ambient temps or very close. I used to poke a finger to touch the hubs and no heat was felt. I did this very quickly of course.

emissivity whoah, I doubt that this old geezer will ever remember that word. :W
I got a deal on one at harbor freight - went back to just doing a walk around and feeling up the hubs - just as good for me and more basic.
Yeah me too. I think I spelled it wrong to boot :B - Dave_H_MExplorer IIemissivity whoah, I doubt that this old geezer will ever remember that word. :W

- Grady23ExplorerAs far as "Not knowing the temps" you can learn by checking what your rig usually runs at for temps. I go by the hand checking -- If it feels too hot -- it probably is. Make sure you have and use a GOOD digital tire guage. If your eleevations changes by more than 1000Ft then check your pressure more frequently. Higher elevations mean higher tire pressues. Pressures should be checked when tires are cold. Road heat can increase pressures quite a bit.
- HalmfamilyExplorerGot mine from Home Depot, its a Ryobi. I believe I paid around $50.00 around five years ago. I,be seen that at Lowes and Sears for about the same price,
- rockylarsonExplorerI've see them at Harbor Freight, very reasonable with coupon. I bought mine at Sears for around $50 several years ago. Pick a spot, the same spot on each tire. I stick to the tread groves but consistency is the key since you are looking for changes in your normal. My TPMS alarms at 165F and that happened twice before I had the brake recall done. Normally they read 20 to 25 degrees above ambient. The inside dually and the sunny side will always be a little higher. I don't IR the hubs but do touch them every stop checking for abnormal temp elevation.
Good Luck
Infrared Thermometer - tvman44ExplorerOn the hubs and tires. :)
- wandering1ExplorerAn infrared gun is good to take the temp of your tires. If you don't know what the max temp of your tires are then you don't know what you are checking for. Contact the tire dealer or manufacturer and ask what the max temp for your tires should be. If you don't know what you are checking for then you have just lost money on the infrared gun. Chances are you wont need the gun.
- gjwarnekeExplorerWhats a good infrared gun brand ? where to get good buy? what do they cost?
Thanks
