Vinyl Flooring?

On my maiden voyage of my new to me 5th wheel (2013 Tradition) I pulled in the sides and somehow a small rock lodged under the roller and torn a V shape section of the vinyl flooring. My question for anyone familiar with vinyl flooring, can I just glue it back in place and use a seam sealer to try and hold the edges? The tear along one side is about 8 inches and the other side is about 10 inches. The vinyl is still attached just has a V flap in it. Also the flooring appears to only be glued on the outside edges. Any suggestions are welcome. The pattern is pretty busy and when the flap is laid back down who can't tell that's its been torn. Just looking for a good way to secure it.
thanks,
  • If glued very well, yes. But chances are, the edges of the tear will begin to curl over time even if you glue it down. Still, that is the least evasive solution, and if it lasts for 3 years before it begins to curl, it would be worth it.
  • When your trailer was built it was laid loose then the cabinets etc were placed on top. There was no adhesive used. I don't know if glue will hold. It's very easy to replace the whole sheet. Cut around the perimeter. Remove the old sheet and use it for a pattern on the new sheet. Cut the new sheet out and lay it on the floor, no glue. Then just hold it in place with 1/4 round around the perimeter. Shouldn't cost over a hundred or two. Takes only a few hours. Laminate works too. I've seen quotes from dealers into the thousands to do do this. What a rip off.

  • Had a small tear on mine. It only tore the top layer and it was glued to the floor and not loose. Had some RV Goop, heated the top layer with a hair dryer, applied the Goop, allowed a moment to set, pushed down and laid a piece of Saran Wrap on top. Placed a couple of bricks on top. After a couple of hours you can not see it.
  • Go to a flooring place in your area and find out who they use to do vinyl flooring. Have them do it for you. It won't be that expensive and should last a while. That's what they do and they're good at it.....
  • Thanks for the information. I have contacted a flooring guy and he say he will come look at it. I hate to replace the entire vinyl part of the flooring because the wife likes it so much and it is in other parts of the trailer. I am also concern that when the slideout roller meets the glued tear area, it will wrinkle it up as it comes in. Think I will leave it to the expert.
  • After it is repaired, use some of those carpet protector strips or flat aluminum strips and put them in front of the rollers before retracting the slide. That should prevent further damage to the vinyl.

    that's a good idea, thanks.
