Most fresh water hoses you'll see at an RV store are white, for this reason. Same as if you're buying a new water supply hose for your bath or kitchen faucet at home. Any other color for the black tank flush. Simple, cheap insurance policy for that "just in case" moment if you get a backwash from the black tank into the hose. Personally, I have white and green.

They gave you sound advice but you don't have to buy it from them. Plenty of sources for drinking safe water hoses.

White hose are potable water safe, while your garden hose is not.
We also use bottled water simply because of preference, taste and safety reasons...
But... we also continue to use the white hose for our water supply.
Think of how many times you reach for the faucet for cooking purposes, brushing your teeth, washing your face etc.
Much safer if you use the right equipment for the right job... certainly not worth the few pennies/dollars you may save on a garden hose. Not to mention contaminating your fresh water holding tank.
Put another way...
Would you use low grade gasoline if your tow vehicle called for premium high test, or low grade engine oil, or cheap tires to save money?

When I hook-up at camp site I put "Y" on. One is for the drinking water hose, the other for flushing or other uses. I never have them both open at once, keep the one not in use off at the "Y"

Buy another hose or hoses of any type to be used for GENERAL water needs----washing rv, rinsing black tank out with, spraying dogs/kids etc.

most regular waterhoses are recycled materials who knows what is in them a white hose is made from non contaminated ruber also if you look in a regular water hose and read the cardboard labelm it states this product can cause cancer

Well...it doesn't really matter to us as we use bottle water for drinking.

The 'incoming' water is used for showers, toilet and doing things in the galley and we use a blue hose for those.

I use the white water hose so I don't get the garden hose taste. JMO

do not use garden hoses for fresh water!
