Before I bought my truck a week ago. I was shopping for about 2 months. Did a lot of research. There is very little difference between 2500 and 3500 as well as the 250 and 350, all SRW.
They all are rated the same for towing. The GVWR is about 1500 lbs more on the 1 ton.
I have not checked the 1/2 tons out but I would imagine that those have been beefed up to tow more as well as the GVWR.
I'm just saying.
This is correct. I'm not as well versed on GM and Ram but on Ford I can tell you with 100% certainty there is no difference between the 250 and SRW F350. Without ordering packages the 350 SRW comes with taller 4" blocks and a single overload spring. These can be had on a 250. THe blocks come with the FX4 pkg and plow prep pkg. The overload springs come with the camper pkg. So, a 250 can be optioned with the identical parts as a SRW 350. It is simply de-rated on paper and the sticker. Many also talk about the axles being different on the 350 SRW which is due to a misprint in Ford's specs. The axles are also identical but de-rated on the 250. For those who don't believe Ford could have a misprint, I've done the research for you: Here are the part numbers for a 2012 F250 vs. F350. I chose 2012 but the results are the same if you search any year of the current generation from 11-15.
F250 Left Rear Axle BC3Z4234C
F250 Right Rear Axle BC3Z4234D
F350 Left Rear Axle BC3Z4234C
F350 Right Rear Axle BC3Z4234D
And here are the links to verify:
2012 F250
250 Verification 2012 F350
350 SRW verification. Here is a link to the question being asked directly to a Ford engineer when they were on the FTE forums answering questions about the 2015 motor update. They were only there to answer questions about 2015 so the MY is mentioned but is irrelevant as they are all the same.
Ford engineer verifying that they are the same. There are so many of these situations where the spec worshipers babble on without knowing what the specs they are quoting really mean or what they are based on. In the case I stated above, it's all marketing. There are variables in other specs too if you take the time to dig but, most won't. And all the while they are calling people ignorant when it is they who are in fact the ill informed ones.....
