What would you pay to have your 5th wheel washed & waxed

My 5th wheel needs washed and waxed. We purchased it brand new last June took only one trip due to my poor health and then stored it underground in a mine for the winter. It is still pretty clean but needs a quick wash.

I cannot perform the work as I suffered 2 small strokes and ladders are no longer allowed. Plus I just do not have the strength in me as well.

The 5th wheel is a 31 foot standard fiberglass / gelcoat sides.

I posted on Craigslist that I was looking for someone to provide this service and my phone started ringing within 20 minutes of the post. I got some off the wall costs of well over $500 and some ridiculos ones of $50 as well. I ruled the low ones out as people who do not know what they are getting into and I don't want them working on my rig.

So what is a fair price for a quality job? I will be providing all materials required soap, wax, rags, sponges, ladders, buckets etc.

If it matters or not I'm in the south west corner of Pennsylvania.

Thanks!

Dave

I say "no!" If a pressure washer can tear a wooden plank apart, an RV is no match. Don't risk it.

    For the OP:

I've had my travel trailers washed by someone else only twice in my life.

The first was when we were returning home from a couple week long trip and the trailer was a mess. As we were getting home, our local High School was having a car wash at the local mall area and we drove right by. We decided to see if they would wash the camper. It was horribly dirty.

When we pulled up those kids were all in shock. I asked how much. The going rate for a car was $5.00. Their sponsor came over and I talked to him. He said they'd do the entiere camper for $10.00. I asked if they'd do the truck too, for a total of $15.00. They were more than willing.

They all went to work, on both the truck and trailer and had it done in no time at all. Because this was for my local high school (band or sports or a field trip.... I don't remember now)... I gave them $50 and they about flipped a wig! I felt it was well worth it! Everyone left happy that day!

About 3 years ago we were traveling from Indiana to Panama City, Florida in December. The day we left Indiana it snowed and the trailer became an absolute mess, covered from end to end with horrible dirt. We were somewhere in Georgia and I was looking for a self-service car wash that had a bay or an outside bay to fit the trailer. We couldn't find any. But we stopped somewhere and I asked and the local patron suggested a place just down the road from where we were at, said they might wash the camper for us. So we went. We negotiated a price. I think it was $75.00. It was the best $75.00 we spent on that trip!

  • Washed is one thing, wax quite another. The services I've used do a pretty sloppy job of waxing. Buffing? Drying? Forget about it, they just wipe it on and off. They're not going to spend hours at your place doing a quality job.

I'd pay a thousand dollars for a *decent* job.

  • Just left Myrtle Beach, the portable service there quoted me $100 cash to pressure wash my 40 footer, including roof. Just FYI
  • I haven’t done the 5er yet but wash and wax of my 16’ cabover used to cost me $150 for reference.
  • There are several outfits in and around AZ and CA that have there portable "HOT CLEAN" pressure washers and cruise around the snowbird RV spots all winter long. On average they charge around $2.00/ft of RV. That is just for a complete wash, including the roof. They work fast and for cash only. A wax is at extra cost and you would have to negotiate a price for that service. If you are talking hand waxing and polishing with a buffer you would be looking at a pretty big bill. You could save a few $$ if the workers use a spray on and go wax. We had our 35ft Cougar washed for $70.00. There were two young fellas and they were fast, efficient, friendly and did an amazing job.

Good luck with your search for workers.

    Cheers!
