Wheel Alignment on a Fiver

I'm looking to have my fiver's wheels aligned before buying new tires. I just spoke with a guy at a big truck service (Wingfoot Goodyear) and he says most trailers are have straight axles with no adjustments and can't be aligned. Has anyone had their NU-WA HitchHiker realigned?

He's talking about a bantam trail lite B-19. Lot different from a heavy fifthwheel.

Those kits do not correct camber adjustments. Camber is the biggest issue on heavy 5'rs. From curb hopping and curb pinching.

Overall, I agree with B O Plenty. If your tires are not showing un-even wear, you have the best indicator that your tires are in good alignment. You only align if there is UN-EVEN tire wear. Otherwise you are wasting money.

By the way, that dealer is not giving you good information. Probably he wants to sell you tires, and does NOT have capability to align your trailer. Go elsewhere to buy your tires. This guy has no credibility.

  • Thanks Guys, it sounds like the guy I spoke with did not want to mess with it. I'll try someone else.

  • If your tires are wearing evenly you have no need to waste any money on an alignment. The same holds true for your car or truck. If your trailer does need an alignment you can get it done at most Big Rig spring and alignment shops. The typical RV dealer won't have the right equipment. It's not like aligning a car, there are no adjustments. They bend the axles into place. Don't worry they do this all the time on big trucks and trailers. I had mine done last year and Found it was off quit a bit. There is a system available called Correct Track that is touted as an alignment system for trailers. It will only do part of the job. It will not allow adjustments for toe or camber which can be done at an alignment shop.

Yes, I had our Hitchhiker aligned last year at a shop that works on large trucks and trailers. I did it for the same reason you want to do yours-new tires. They had to bend one axle and did a good job overall. You need to find another shop.
  • Not sure about yours but my tube axles (common on 5ers) have been aligned a few times. Its done by bending the axles. You may have no axles (my previous 5er had Mor-ryde IS with no axles) but those can also be aligned. If the place you went to says "can't be done", go down the road to someone who knows what they are doing.
