And to further identify the exact nature of the problem, you need to open the direct tank drain to see how much is left in the tank when the pump stops sucking water.
I have an entirely different unit but it appears that even if I get mine full up to the vent I lose 5 gallons or more going down the road.
I also suspect that the pump starts sputtering before the tank is anywhere close to being really empty.
I don't think either of those conditions is easily fixable so I carry a few extra gallons of water under the bed.
P.S. In general, "shower loving" and real camping aren't very compatible with each other. ;)
