And to further identify the exact nature of the problem, you need to open the direct tank drain to see how much is left in the tank when the pump stops sucking water.
I know exactly how much is unreachable, having once drained the tank completely then added water until the pump could get it. At ten gallons added, I was just able to prime the pump.
