Where is fresh water tank drain - 1998 Jayco 243 KS?

Decided to sanitize my fresh water tank (56ga) today. Followed Jayco owners manual. 1/4 cup bleach to 15 gallons water. When I filed tank, water started to come out of two tubes under coach near fresh water tank. I believe they may be overflow lines? Are they?

When water started to exit these lines, I turned off water.

Let it sit for 4 hours.

after 4 hrs it was drain time.

Went to locate drain valve for fresh water tank and can't find it. I found two small T handle valves under a cabinet. Manual calls them line drains. I pulled them and water started to drain from low water drain tubes under coach (different lines from overflow lines).

Drained slowly for about 30 mins. I checked water level indicator and it reads 3/4 full. I closed vales and went to fill and drain. I could not fill.....as soon s a few gallons entererd tank, overflow lines began to leak water.

So.........where are tank drain valves? Those T handle valves obviously were not tank drains. Manual states there would be a 1/4 turn valve and/or T handles... but I can not find 1/4 turns valves anywhere.

Why drain it all? You should first open faucets with pump on, and get that sanitized water through the lines( hot & cold) run it for a while until most is out, then empty the tank. Now all that water with bleach is in the grey tank

I'll check again for drain valve. It must be on the side because directy underneath it is not.

As far as pumping water through lines......water heater is off so I don't think those lines would get sanitized. But I did run some water through cold lines for sanitization. I'm at home and didn't want to fill gray tank with the chlorinated water and then have it sit in it until I can get to a dump station which could be several weeks.

Water heater doesn't need to be "ON"!..:R

Open the hot faucet (and cold) everywhere there are faucets.

What's the dif whether there's chlorinated water in the grey tank or not?

So it sits - no big deal.....or, since you're at home - run the water out onto the ground or into your sewer, or?

  • We had a 2000 243RKS, the tank overflows were just as you described. The tank drain was also right there in a small bulge on the bottom of the tank cover. However ours was plastic, not brass. The valve had a short length of hose that went to the tank.
  • OK I think your right brass valve is it ,poke a coat hanger wire up it, or blow some air up in it,or take it off , me I like the air idea.
  • I'm at a loss...........I can not find a drain valve anywhere near or on tank. There is a sticker on outside of coach (rear left corner) that says "low point drain." Below sticker and under coach there is a valve under tank and it connects to a plastic flex line. The valve is a small brass screw type (it may be aftermarket). It drips when opened but does not drain quickly. Not sure if its the drain? Its been dripping for several hours. Also, under this sticker, niot far from this small brass valve, there are to plastic hoses exiting tank and when I fill my tank water come sou from them after my tank was full. Are these overfill lines? If so, why two?

There is another sticker on right side mid coach ("low point drain") and under there are lines that drain when I open the T handle drains that are in coach just above these lines. I believe these are also low point drains just like the sticker states.

Again, the only valve is the brass one under tank. But it does not drain quickly, only a drip. Could this be the tank drain and it is clogged or something?

    Thanks

  • crawl under the rv and look, ours is on the tank under the rv. drains in about 15teen min. all rv,s are different keep searching its there.
  • they were more then likely low point drains, the tank drain is usually under the main fresh water tank, you will have to look for it again.
