Where to Purchase a Cummins/Onan LP Generator

I have a gen prepped fifth wheel. I am headed to Indiana shortly from NC. Where would you suggest the purchase/install of a 5500 Cummins/Onan for a reasonable price?

I did speak with them on the phone. They would not nail down a price. They wanted between $5200 - $6500 for a 5500 LP installed.

Sounds high for your RV with the generator prep package / wiring already installed. I can't imagine an experienced shop needing more than a day / 8 hours of labor to do it.

Personally I would not go with a Cummins/Onan new. They have cheapened up their low KW RV Genny's so IMO they are no better than Champion, Durostar etc.
The Cummins/Onan no longer have oil Pumps, filters and I believe the Low oil cutoff has been removed as I can no longer find it in their literature. Instead they have gone to splash oiling which is far inferior to me.
Champion has a nice dual fuel

HAve a mobile RV mechanic install. The only problem I have with the Champion is the unit is to tall for my rigs compartment

My new Onan 5500 LP has all the things you mention so it may depend on the model.
  • I got my Onan 5500 LP from Norwall power systems for just under 4K with free shipping. I just finished the installation in my 5th wheel. It did not have genarator prep so I had to do it all from scratch.
