If you go with a satellite dome type you can only get HD with dish not with Direct TV. If you go with tripod and get the right satellite dish you can get HD with either. Personally I had dish and was extremely happy. When you sign up get "Snowbird"status so when you travel you call Then when you get to your destination you call them and tell them to set up local channels for that area. Your home area local channels only come in for about 200 mi from your location.
