Then you were very fortunate....so far. We encountered them in RMNP, although they may have been "pot heads". Every state has their share, some more than others. And I'm still not sure why you can't figure out why a wife and child may face more risk in a dangerous confrontation.
By the way, having spent a great deal of time in the wilderness in the lower 48 states and in Alaska, I am a firm believer that people are more of a threat to wildlife than wildlife is to people.
Well, considering I am a female, I fail to see how anybody intending to do harm is more of a threat to me than they are to my husband. I lived and traveled alone for 10+ years before I met him, and never really felt like my safety was at risk because I was a female. Living in fear is not healthy.
And, I understand that wildlife are not a threat, which was the point. I don't think anything is threatening while camping.
