I don't know where to post this so if it needs to be moved please feel free to do so.We are thinking about spending the winter in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama and am wondering about the weather temperatures. According to the average temperatures listed on the national weather averages it looks fairly good. I was looking at various campground web pages an noticed there were pictures of snow during February. We don't mind cool weather but don't want to be freezing and spending all of our time inside. Don't want to spend a small fortune on propane but....We spent last winter in south Texas and it was great temperature wise but would like to see something different.Just looking for some input from others who have spent the winter in the above mentioned states and how you found the weather.Any and all input would be appreciated.Thanks. La & Ms generally only have about 12 days per year of freezing weather. We camp all winter, well, Oct thru May anyway

I hope I can help out. We live in South Alabama, 40 miles from the Florida line. The beaches of Panama City, and Destin are 1-1/2 hours from here. Winter temps are mostly mild, In January the highs are in the upper 50s to low 60s. 70 degree highs are not uncommon. We do get a touch of winter though. When an Arctic front comes through, expect lows of around the upper teens to low 20's for a few nights. Snow is not common. Everyone gets excited when we see a few flakes. Last significant snowfall was the "Blizzard" of 2012 when we received 4". Before that was the "Blizzard" of '93 with 4" also. (Don't laugh, 4" shuts us down, there are no snow plows or salt trucks for 300 miles.) Because we enjoy winter camping, I do not winterize my RV. When I am not camping, I set the furnace thermostat to 40 degrees and it does not use too much propane. I think we used 3 bottles all winter.

Our favorite time for camping is Sept. - May in Louisiana. :)

We leave our TT in South Alabama, 35 miles from the Florida line, from Nov. until May. We like to have it there so that we can paddle in the Florida Panhandle during the winter. We do drain the tanks and shut off the water when we are not there. hitec has described the situation perfectly. lizzie

In the north in those states, you might see "snow" in February. It will be what you call "flurries" but everyone will freak out, dance in it and yell "it's snowing!!!!" lol. Schools will be shut down for the day and it will all melt the next day.

Southern areas of those states might every decade or so see flurries.

We have had many a thanksgiving and Christmas wearing shorts and t shirts. For you, if you are trying to escape the snow and cold, I imagine it would be quite lovely.

I wear flip flops with my jeans for as long as I can go, usually at least through December.

We spent our first winter in Alabama (2012/2013) when we moved from St. Paul, MN and it was nice. Spent the entire time in Montgomery with a couple of trips to FL and TX for a week or so. Temps were mild by Minnesotan standards but it rains a lot (this year?). Being farther from the coast living expenses are lower and there really is no hurricane threat, only tornados. Used very little propane and electric is free during the winter where we are staying.

Summer is a whole other story.

Yes, summer is a different story. If you want to visit New Orleans, go in the winter for sure!! (there is supposedly a nice RV park right outside the French quarter)...
