AC - mobile rv tech via phone - fixed and running !

DH got up on the roof and did as the mobile rv tech said - AC working now ...

Had been told in February that we needed a new AC motor ...

Decided that since the temps are now in the middle 70s and it is only April that it might be time to budget for a new AC motor ...

Called a recommended rv mobile tech this morning ...

DH did as rv tech said in trouble shooting ... oiled the shaft and voila .. AC is working !

So often there is bad news or problems posted here ... so thought I would pass on some good news from SE Washington State .. Have a Great Day everyone out there !

  • RoadXYZ,
    thanks for the feedback!

All the AC motors I have seen use a porous copper alloy material for bushings, no bearings. They are not sealed, or are very poorly sealed. The bushing that is easily seen when removing the AC shroud seem to occasionally stick after sitting for a period of time (winter storage, etc). Once freed, the bushings seem to still last a long time. Shooting a little spray lube in there is a good thing, and easily penetrates where it is needed.

The inner bushing is very hard to get to, and requires removal of the inner fan wheel to access. These are not open to the outside environment, so they tend not to have a problem over the life of the motor.

Put back some money my guess you will be seeing a new motor in your future. And probably at the worst time.

    X2

Oiling the shaft is a temporary fix seeing as fan motor bearings are sealed or sleeved and have no provisions for oiling them routinely.

I have had very good luck with mobile techs - often recommended by cg staff - in various places around the country. Hats off to them, I'd rather pay a hard working one man business than some often incompetent corporation!!! And, the best - is that they come to you!!! OP, glad your repair was a simple inexpensive one. Happy camping

I had to comment when I saw this. We have been FTing for 6 years, and have also had some of our very best experience with the mobile techs. One of the things it seems many of them have going for them is that they have been running their business for 10-20 or even 30 years. On the other hand, it seems some of the dealers or repair centers go through techs fairly often, so experience may be a big factor.

  • AND it is hard for us full-timers to take our rig to a repair facility overnight or days .. we did that for a full day when the refrigerator had to have a new cooling unit installed.
