On average how often do you change campground locations?I am curious because the first 2-years of full-time RVing I moved around a lot; went here and there, and changed campgrounds about every two weeks. But now I am spending months at a particular location, which I seem to enjoy more.My first year RVing full-time I camped at 25 different campgrounds in a 12-month period. This year I only stayed at 7-campgrounds and I do find it is a different lifestyle then moving around a lot. For one thing I can leave things out longer that might otherwise be put away every time I move my 5th wheel.Another full-timer told me that it is typical when a person starts out full-time in their RV they go everywhere and move around a lot but as time goes on they stick to just a few campgrounds staying much longer. Don’t know if that’s true or not.I understand that some people don’t move around too much for a lot of different reasons, gas prices, they like the view, it is near relatives, etc., and it may have nothing to do with how long they have been RVing full-time. I guess the same can be said for those who move around a lot.So I guess I’m wondering if you still go to as many places now as you did when you first started full-time RVing, and on average how often do you change campgrounds?

We move locations every week to 2 weeks.Tried staying longer periods a few times and just didn't like it.The 5vr has wheels for a reason and we hit the road to travel....and that is what we have been doing. Until circumstances change.

We take advantage of our membership parks and move every 2 to 3 weeks. Works great for us. Been doing this for 10 years and love it.

There are no absolutes. This lifestyle is unique to everyone. Many people however, move faster and more often in the first year or two than in later years. The first year or two you are in "vacation mode." Got to "get there" and "see everything. Later you realize you have some time and slow down. The journey becomes as much fun as the destination. Many folks like yourself stay a little longer and explore each area a little more.Of course others do it differently and that is O.K. too.

Our first year we planned on working our way up the west coast from San Diego to Seattle. We made it as far as Pismo Beach :) We moved rather slowly ;)

Our first couple years we moved about every 4-5 days simply because there was so much we wanted to see. We tried to spend 6 weeks in each state...2 in the north, 2 in the middle and 2 in the south. With the exception of Texas and California, that process allowed us to pretty much see everything in each state. Now that we've been to almost every state, we are spending longer periods going back to where we've been and spending at least one week at a time. (weekly rates are cheaper than daily too). We are revisiting some stuff we missed and spending more time just enjoying the amenities of the park where we are staying....next year we are even going to do some work kamping...:B....Dennis

I found a great spot tucked away in the woods in central Georgia and the monthly rate was only $200.00 electric included. Can't beat that!

Yup, that's what it is all about. No one to meet, no place I have to be except where I decide to set the levelers down. :C

Care to share where that GA campground is and the name?

We average 1 week in each location. BUT we are looking forward to finding a spot this winter after 13 months on the road to sit tight for 1 month.

I travel on business so my situation is a bit more unique. I generally relocate 60-80 times per year.

Took me a year to figure that one out. When I hit the road full time I drove all over the place like a drunken sailor.....till I found out you can ask for the monthly rate at 'any' CG you pull into.

If I liked a CG I pulled into for the night and liked the area I would ask what the monthly rate was.

MaverickBBD, when you say “meter” are you referring to the electricity use rate at a campsite? I’ve heard that some campgrounds charge extra for electric. I camp mainly at State Parks, National Parks, and military famcamps, and have never been charged extra for the amount of electricity I use.

The type of RV parks I mentioned are also cheaper than private RV parks, but State and National parks have a shorter stay limit; usually two weeks max. Unlike many, but not all, military famcamps where you can stay for several months.

Thanks everyone for sharing your stories. I guess, as one person said, there are no absolutes. Some people move around a lot even after full-time RVing for a long time.

A lot depends on travel schedule and destinations. Generally we move less in the winter month. Unless we really like a place I like to move before the monthly rate. I found that any savings with the extended time is eaten up when you are on a meter.
