You can use any mailing service in any state and still be a resident of Michigan. Just keep your drivers license, bank etc and use your son's address as your "residence" address;. You would then use the address the mail forwarding service gives you as your "mailing address". You then have all your mail sent to your forwarding service who will send it on to you whenever you request it. Many campgrounds will accept mail, or you can have it sent general delivery to a town where you will stay for a few days. You then use your son's address for your taxes or anything that requires the resident instead of mailing address. Most things you can use the mailing address. You can list both a resident and mailing address (different) on your taxes too.
Perfect advice. What you can NOT do in Michigan is use a mail forwarding service like UPS as your only address. We fought with the SOS for a week after they REVOKED our licenses because they found out we were using a commercial address. What a mess. We ended up using Escapees in TX, but then we did have to switch insurance companies. Be careful because if you are using HAP or Priority Health they cover very little outside the state. Emergencies only- so when I broke my arm they would have covered the emergency room in Arizona but I would have had to fly to MI for follow up care.
