Changing our address again !!!

When we had a house and a Post Office Box, we had a house address and the PO Box for a mailing address for bills, financial mail, etc. As long as they have both, it doesn't really matter where the mailing address is located.

DOL will not accept a PO Box nor in some instances a UPS or commercial address, but there also is a place for "residence" and "mailing address".

Repeat --- just because you use a mailing address outside the state temporarily, does not mean you have changed your resident status. You will need a street address in MI to use as your residence address. We have been doing this for 3 years and have had no problem. Our address on our bank accounts, licenses, taxes etc is the street address in MI with a "mailing only" address in FL.

Thanks for all the information. We are looking at going with Traveling Mailbox they are listed with the BBB and seam to be a reputable company. I still need to call my health care insurance to see how it may affect us.

Perfect advice. What you can NOT do in Michigan is use a mail forwarding service like UPS as your only address. We fought with the SOS for a week after they REVOKED our licenses because they found out we were using a commercial address. What a mess. We ended up using Escapees in TX, but then we did have to switch insurance companies. Be careful because if you are using HAP or Priority Health they cover very little outside the state. Emergencies only- so when I broke my arm they would have covered the emergency room in Arizona but I would have had to fly to MI for follow up care.

Are you sure your health insurance won't let you use doctors throughout the country? We have Medicare and our supplemental policy allows us to do that. Perhaps you need to choose a different supplement.

We have nothing in Texas and were not even from Texas (Michigan 17 years ago) but we chose the Escapees RV Club mail forwarding service as our permanent, physical address and all of our mail is sent there. They don't give you a P.O. box, they give you your own unique street address. We just have to call or email and request them to send it out to either a small town P.O. or sometimes a RV park will accept mail, and we receive it wherever we are in 2-3 days. It only costs us $85/year plus postage when they mail it out. We've been doing this for 17 years with no problems. A lot of financial stuff can now be done easily online, also.

Texas doesn't have income tax. Texas doesn't require you to be there for jury duty. Just call, say you're traveling and you'll be excused. Contrary to what some believe, Texas doesn't require annual vehicle inspections if you never stay in Texas.

Definitely, get a mail forwarding service somehow and don't rely on family. It's a lot easier. Good luck!

We've been using the same UPS Store in FL for the last 8.5 yrs. We sometimes open a 2nd one near the jobsite to receive packages from Amazon, FL UPS Store or from our kids.

DH can use that address for his DL and vehicle tags, Insurance. My concern is what address do you use for those important items???

Indiana BMV clearly states what is needed to be a resident if you live in a motor home. Do some research on the Michigan website.

If you decide Michigan won't work, look at www.myrvmail.com in Crestview Florida will give you a permanent address and forward your mail. Their website gives lots of info.

I'm not sure if UPS addresses are good for anything more than forwarding mail. As a fulltimer, your new address will need to be accepted by businesses and government agencies. Before you decide, check with your local DMV and ask what would be acceptable for your driver's license and vehicle registration. They're required to comply with the federal Real ID act.

I just renewed my DL in person in FL and had no problems with a mail forwarding service in that state (not UPS).
