Cleaning On the Road

I thought of this a few minutes after my last post.

My RV is 33 years old, and in all that time, I suspect it has never been washed (exterior washing). Without a driveway to pull into to scrub those walls, where do you take your RV to clean it up? I imagine most campgrounds would frown on such a thing.
  • Careful. The dirt may be the only thing keeping it together! :)
  • Just this week in bone-dry California I was so desperate for a rig wash that I pulled into a remote corner of a truck stop and washed it using on-board water. Only the second time I have done that in 10 years.
  • Yep, Blue Beacon! I love it. Too bad there aren't more of them around.
  • My experience is like Vairman's. Many campgrounds have an RV wash build in, and they like you to look good in your spot.

I have washed our rig before parking it a few times. It's nice to show it off in good shape and clean.
  • Many public car wash businesses have a truck bay, where they have cat walks on either side to was your rig.
  • I have found many campgrounds do allow (or do not specifically disallow) RV washing. If there is not a specific rule, I wash my RV whenever it needs it. I usually try to do it when it will not inconvenience neighbors such as a close quarter campground.
  • Find a self wash car wash. A lot of them on the end of the building have a open stall or space instead of ones you drive in side of. These are for over-the-road trucks, dump trucks, motor homes, etc. Also check out Blue Beacon truck washes in your area. We've used them several times. Maybe not quit as good as I'd do, but they do a decent job.
