Estimated Monthly Electricity Cost?

Hi All,

I am looking for some help and thought that those who are full-timing or living in their RV might be able to help me. I am trying to decide on a park spot to stay in for a couple of months for work and I found a nice place but I would have to pay my own electricity costs instead of it being bundled into one overall monthly rent cost like another park I am considering.

So..I am looking for anyone that might be able to provide an estimate of the monthly cost of electricity that I might use. My details - 30' TT, single AC, by myself and at work during the day with AC off. Water heater would be a mix of electric and propane but again likely off during the day. This is Southeastern NM so this time of year we really don't need heat anymore.

Anyone got a guess? I am trying to balance things overall and reduce my costs as much as practical which is why I am exploring the options.

Thanks for the help.

Terry
  • When I full timed in my Excursion my elec bill would normally be $50-60.00 a month. No A/C. While in hot climates running ac almost 24/7 $150-200.00 a month at 12-14 cents a kilowatt. All appliances on elec. Hope this helps. AC set at 78.
  • We don't stay many places that charge for electric but so far when we do it averages $2.00 per day or a bit more we figure. We run the refer and water heater on electric and we use our onboard washer and drier.
  • In the past, while either full timing or monthly stays, I budgeted about $2 a day. Most months were very close to that figure. The only propane we used for that figure was some use of the stove top burners for cooking.
  • I full time and my electric in the non a/c periods runs $45.00/month @ $0.15/kwh. I run my refrigerator and water heater on propane during this period also. Propane is cheaper for me than electricity.

Fortunately I spend most of my summers hosting at a state park so my electric is free.
  • When I livedi n Portland Oregon, electric was only 9 cents per KW, so find out how much it is. My bills where about $60. If you had free electric, the average person would consume more, so the rent would have to go up, so normally it is actually less expensive to include the electric meters as a separate item, rather than the park owner saying "Everyone is going to run the A/C 24/7 and charge about 85 - $100 per site per month.

This causes everyone to conserve power, and it works out less expensive in the end.

If you budget $60, you can spend the rest on a night out to eat once a month if you come in a little low some months.

For what it is worth, at 9 cents per KW, it takes 22 KW to offset the use of one gallon of propane in the heater. So if the cost is 9 cents per KW VS $3 per gallon, you will save 2 cents by using electric. If electric is more, or if propane is more or less, you can figure it out. For what it is worth, I would rather use the electric and avoid having to refill the tanks.

  • Figure roughly 400kwh/month at rate cg charges

    400kwh X $.12/kwh=$48

    400kwh X $.16/kwh=$64
