Any recommendations from you full-timers on insurance for your rigs? We want something that is specifically geared to RVs, and we will have a fifth wheel and TV, not a motorized RV. Any advice or suggestions are welcome. We currently have the vehicles insured with Safeco.

My current insurance expires at the end of this month (GMAC through Good Sam). I had a claim last spring so they raised my rates last summer and my renewal notice this year had a smaller increase. I suspected that would be the case and started checking other companies a week ago. (I can understand trying to get your money back but chasing me to a different company gets you $0.)Looks like my best deal will come from National Interstate. It's available through several insurance brokers but that also took some work to find out what my actual premiums would be. The first quote looked extremely low. I contacted the agent again to remind him of the claim last year. He said they just quoted based on driving record (there was no police report filed). But, the questionnaire with the application asked about recent claims so I persisted. He finally plugged in the right info and gave me an accurate quote - higher than the original quote but still lower than the other quotes.

From our personal experience, we would recommend Progressive. They have options for part time to full time.

I've had claims and there taken care of asap... No rate hikes either...As the previous poster pointed out, your agent is the key to obtaining the proper insurance at the best rate... Tim

TimI can't find any references to fulltime RV'er coverage on State Farm's website. Are you sure they do fulltimers insurance?

TimWell, State Farm does not quote on fulltimers. I too have had State Farm since I was 16 and when I approached my agent about fulltiming I was told I would have to look someplace else. We are with Allied and they have been very good to us.

hello,

we went to different insurance co. and got quotes for full-time insurance for our TT, and progressive had best price for us. Even our pet was covered if she got injured.

get quotes from different insurance co and pick the one that is best for you.

I agree on Blue Sky. We had progressive before and there rates doubled in (5) years.(No claims) Blue Sky beat them by $700.

Been with National, Progressive, Foremost and GMAC during our years of full timing, but now we are with Blue Sky which is underwritten by RLI, who writes our umbrella insurance....by far the least expensive and best full timer coverage, bar none.

We have ours insured with National Interstate through Explorer RV and cannot speak highly enough of them.
We had a claim two days before we were to return to Australia. Within 48 hours the claim was approved and the repairer had been paid. The roadside assistance guy who helped us the night of the problem, volunteered to pick up the 5er after it had been repaired and take it to the storage facility. He disconnected the batteries, filled up buckets of water and left it exactly as we would have ourselves.
I believe that the test of a high quality insurance company is how they react and treat you when you have a claim. National Interstate has my vote.

I am also with Progressive and just signed up for full-timers insurance on my new fifth-wheel just over a week ago.

I would go to there website and you can play around there free and not be hassled , adjust numbers for the coverage that suits you, and go from there.

That should at least give you an idea what you might be looking at as far as cost.

There is an article at DIY RV that lists all the popular insurance carriers and agents with information about if they write full-timer policies.

When we were searching for RV insurance information it was one of the few listings in google not selling insurance. So annoying.

I can't find any references to fulltime RV'er coverage on State Farm's website. Are you sure they do fulltimers insurance?

I have State Farm Insurance...

*** UPDATE*** I just called State Farm Insurance (main office not a agent) and they stated they do have full timers insurance if you want to purchase full time insurance you need to call a local agent to discuss coverage and rates...

If you have some things stored while fulltiming, does the insurance cover it? Back when we fulltimed, our stored furniture, etc., wasn't covered.

Contact a broker to get multiple quotes.

Besides Explorer, Poliseek can quote on Progressive, Nat'l Interstate and ?? or try Farm and City out of Forest City, IA which can quote multiple ins. There's another one in OR, but when I tried contacting them a few years ago, they never got back to me.
