Side rant alert!
A lot of people that are viscerally opposed to Obamacare and any discussion of single payer health care are actually already on single payer with Medicare...they conveniently forget that. The percentages in this category on RV.NET are probably pretty high.
Our health care system in the US is ridiculous, we spend more (1/6th of GDP) than other countries and don't have the same outcomes others achieve spending less.
There are two large problems. First access; Obamacare went a long way to provide access for more Americans. Second cost; Obamacare didn't do a lot here.
Unfortunately no one seems willing to seriously deal with this, and all of the health care industrial complex is incented to keep the money flowing and not allow serious improvement here. Eventually the bank will break and we'll have to make changes. Transparency to actual costs and quality of care metrics will help but I expect eventually single payer will be required.
Again. It's a little hypocritical for everyone on Medicare to rail against single payer...
Rant off.
