New health insurance laws took effect at midnight. I am suggesting that before you roll out for your trips, check to make sure that your health insurance coverage is fully functional. It's one thing to go to the emergency room or hospital when you are at your base and find out that your insurance copay and reimbursement is no longer in place and you need to come up with cash. At least you can go back to the sticks and bricks, lick your wounds and start the process to fix the problem. It's another thing to do when you are on the road and might not have all of the resources or information necessary to unscrew the problem. I have a feeling this is going to be an ongoing problem for many that had to get their own individual policies.Stay Healthy and have a Happy New Year

Very valid point. Our employer-sponsored plan changed as well-I need to sit down and make sure all the numbers match up so if we wind up at the ER or doc today for some reason there won't be any issues.

Lots to millions of people and families will be in for a very dismal surprise when they need to use their healthcare insurance after 12:00 AM last night, 1-1-2014. For so many it will be when they need the insurance the nost as in an emergency situation! The staggering deductibles that must be met first will sober and shock so many of the unexpecting that's just waiting for them!We checked it out ourselves and thought we were just seeing things until many of our friends said they all also seen the very same numbers and issues. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, guess it really is a duck!

Good advice. Wife got two letters from her insurance company. One said all was fine, the second said she had three days (one a holiday)to confirm by phone that she wanted to keep her insurance.Turns out all is fine, but she spent several hours on the phone to make sure.For anyone with assets, there is too much at stake to just assume things are all fine.Matt B

I specifically asked many of these questions of my agent when I got my new, better, and cheaper policy from my state run exchange. I'm glad MN stepped up to the plate and got this done. I'm thankful that people on here and in other places got me thinking about it so I could check into it.

The president said they were junk polices and seem some people just repeat it. I provided insurance for full time (40 Plus Hours) managers and they cost was 210.00 per employee this year. Three years ago the same insurance policy paid for one of my managers motorcycle accident to the tune of 65,000 with pins and screws in leg and shoulder and cost him a total of 2,500.00 for two years of deductibles. The replacement ACA plan just like in MSNBC video has 5,000 deductible with a 6300,00 cap so it would cost him over two years 12,600.00. You are correct about the preventive healthcare the ACA policy does cover more but it comes with a high cost with increase premiums and deductibles. If you notice in the video their cost went up and the deductable went up from 1200 to 5000 also and from what I have SEEN with my other small business friends that what is happening with them also.

We had a meeting just like in the video prior to the extension of the Employer Mandates and I offered my mangers the option of getting what I paid for insurance in a bonus. Every one of them stated that they were young and would take it as a raise and wouldn't buy insurance with the money. The other problem we have is ACA says if you provide insurance for one full time person you have to provide insurance to all that work over 30 hours regardless of the number of employees.

In Dec we got an extension of one year (it was one of the 6.5 million policies that was canceled) to our current plan but I believe the president needs these plans to go away because I had this policy for 12 years with agent being my neighbor and would probably keep if forever.

The federal government dumps a lot of programs on the states wthout proper funding. The federal highway system and education mandates are just 2 of many. In this instance, the states were given a choice. (Unlike us citizens.) Some states chose not to participate. That is their right. The cost of implimentation varies from state to state, depending on existing inferstructure, number of citizens and other financial considerations. Some states are flush with cash, others are cutting services and jobs to meet a budget. To bad mouth the states that chose not to participate shows a real lack of understanding of what goes on in the real world.

EDIT: A Democrat will cut funding to a Republican bill to pay for a Democrat bill. A Republican will cut funding to a Democtrat bill to pay for a Republican bill. All that really tells us is that we didn't really need either bill in the first place.

It's problems are due supposedly an issue with a Medicare contractor. Again - nothing to do with ACA. Folks on Medicare don't get insurance from the Marketplace Exchanges.

The company which runs that hospital - LTHM, LLC - has had problems for a while. The owner lost a lawsuit last year from investors over fraud. The company is under investigation by the state for Medicaid and Medicare fraud.

Yes, Novitas Solutions does have a contract to payment processing from the federal government - they've had the contract since the middle of 2012. And they don't process any payments under the ACA. Only Medicare and Medicaid.

DH and I are 47. We both just retired and had to find health insurance. We had a choice of COBRA, at $1404 per month, or looking on the exchange. Our COBRA insurance is an HMO with only regional coverage through BCBS. On the exchange, we found a Silver level PPO with national coverage through BCBS. The cost for the two of us is $538 per month, with no subsidies.

I could not purchase an individual plan on the open market because of pre-existing conditions. My condition? We had a parrot for a couple of years that, it turned out, I was highly allergic to. During molt season, I had allergy induced asthma. We got rid of the bird, the asthma went away; the insurance companies didn't care - I was branded for life.

My deductible has increased, but only because I went from an HMO to a PPO. The max out of pocket is about the same. BUT, we save a little over $10,000 per year, which covers our out of pocket max.

So, by changing healthcare plans, we potentially save a bunch of money but, even in the worst year with huge medical expenses, we pay no more than on our previous plan. We also now have a national network rather than an HMO that is no good more than 500 miles from home except in a dire emergency.

You have now heard of someone who has a great new plan from BCBS where the premiums and out of pocket maxes did not go up 150%. We can't compare the deductibles because our HMO does not have one. But, we also had a limited network of Dr.s we could use. I would be more than happy to show you print outs.

Here in Texas we haven't seen anything. And I'm very certain our governor would be standing in front of such a hospital holding a press conference if it were true.

The statement also doesn't make sense. ACA has nothing to do with the insurance processing. The federal government makes no payments to hospitals based on ACA.

Payments are the insurance company responsibility.

Now - I did do some research on my own into the subject.

The only hospitals I can find which didn't pay employees were the Federal Prison and VA hospitals during the government shutdown in October.

There were two hospitals I can find which closed in Texas in 2013. One in Terrell, and one Center. The Terrell hospital was closed by the state when their audits found several problems with patient care, no nursing supervision, many other issues. The hospital in Center was closed by the owner after the hospital was decertified for federal Medicaid and Medicare payments. Both hospitals were owned and operated by the same person, who was arrested and jailed for Medicaid and Medicare fraud at both hospitals.

I'll also give you the possibility that a google search is too general. All I ask is for the name of the hospital so I can find the truth about the information you posted.
