You can pick any state you want to be your home base. And have a home base in any form you want. Apartment. House. Piece of property. UPS box. The reason you always see Texas, Florida and South Dakota listed is that those states have no state income tax. In those states you only pay federal tax on any income you may have. And your home base in Texas, Florida and South Dakota can be anything you want.
