So you CANNOT use a street address from UPS right?
Depends upon the state. When you use a UPS store they give you an address with a PMB number. Whether or not the particular state you want to use recognize it as a legitimate physical address is up to their rules.
As to how do they know it is a mail forwarder (and UPS is one) - there are databases that list all of the mail forwarders (as well as other businesses) so if your state says a business address can not be used, it will get flagged. In Texas there is a state court ruling that says our addresses are legal physical addresses, so even though Scott Trade (in a CYA move by their auditors) won't use it, the state has no problem with it.
There is a reason that Florida, South Dakota, and Texas are used by a lot of fulltimers - they have good mail service companies and laws that allow fulltimers to set up residency with very little hassle.
An alternative is to use a relative's address, which a lot of people do.
