does anyone make a clearish material like the Reflectix stuff everyone is using. I like the Reflectix stuff on windows to keep heat and sun out but they block the view when in a window.
There are threads about DIY Lexan or polycarbonate interior storm windows. Factory optional on Streamline, Avion and Silver Streak in years past, and obviously great with jalousie windows. Rarely ordered, unfortunately. But the threads about DIY on this forum replicate much of what those factory's did. Storage of Same is the other puzzle piece.
Airstream may not have, I don't know. The older units had curved interior walls that would have made this difficult. Hard plastic would still be best.
For my trailer l have used all of the techniques above. Sleeping beside the windows in winter was uncomfortable. I had acrylic cut to fit over the windows and secure with Velcro strips. The front window I cover with Reflectix, again secured with Velcro strips. The large picture window is covered with a shrink film storm window kit. All mods have greatly improved comfort particularly for sleeping.
I use Reflectix on most but not all windows. Depends on heat load from sun in summer, and degree of cold in winter. There are several windows I don't cover at all for natural light. I use day/night shades on most windows and the three of the five lounge and kitchen windows are "open". Same for bath, open. I close off the rear bedroom entirely.
Attention to roof openings, and door weatherstrip really pays off.
So, Reflectix in main, and choices about where I am when awake makes it easier. I suppose I could try these clear film kits for those several windows "open" and see a benefit as reported by others.
Hard interior storm windows will do the best job.
I have employed all of those techniques in my trailer. The windows beside the twin beds made sleeping most uncomfortable. I had acrylic cut to cover them and secure them with Velcro strips. The large front window is covered with Reflectix. For the large picture window I used a shrink film storm window kit. All of the mods have made the trailer much more comfortable, especially for sleeping by the windows.
