Many are going to say it's too big and for weekend camping it is BUT for FT I always say "Buy more RV than you think you need...ONE TIME!" If you look at the size of the RV that say too big and then the same for those that say OK you will see a pattern. Like you we like the woods and we boondock 5-6 days/week without reservations. If you show up Friday the chances of finding a site big enough is slim but show up Sunday afternoon or Monday and there are usually plenty of sites. Just because a CG says 36' max that does not mean there are not any sites larger. By using this site I can zoom in on the CG and usually see if I'm going to fit in advance. If I'm unsure about a CG I'll unhook the car and go look first for overhanging trees and tight turns with rocks on the inside. With a 5er you might want to be able to get to a bicycle and use it to look first. Sure a big rig is harder and yes I have some scratch's on the sides. In 10 years all but one of them have buffed out.
Based on "outwestbound" buy bigger BUT at 40' and FT (lots of stuff) you are at or above pulling with a 1T. Hope this helps and good luck in your search.
