Land to call your own?

Any full timers out there that have land that they own to come home to hook up to water and power and sewer. Say one in the southwest and another in the northwest? My wife needs to have dirt to work with, that is a place for a garden and etc? If so how , when , cost? etc.
  • Plenty of ownership RV lots around. We have one as a home base and go out from there. Nice to have a "home" base, it is cheaper than renting all the time and it serves as a some roots in an otherwise rootless lifestyle. We can also rent it while we are away.

If you need more than that, there are places that have small homes attached to RV ports. All in what you need or want.
  • I think you always need a spot to call home just because. It might just be a shed to store stuff or a full hook-up site. It is always nice to come home where ever or however set up it might be.
  • If you are really a full timer then you really don't need dirt! What would you garden if your plans are to leave in a few weeks or even a few months? So, it doesn't sound like you plan to full time. What are your plans exactly? Do you mean you only plan to live in the RV full time but rarely travel?
  • I consider myself a 'full timer' as I'm engaged with my camper full time, even though we park it and use it at the house when we're not on-the-road.

We purchased our current house, 10 years ago, so we could have somewhere to park the camper after the city we lived in told us we had to move it. So we did, and now use it every day when we want.

We got our dream. We have a fire pit outside, a fire place inside the house, can park the camper on our property and we sleep in it almost every night, until the weather gets too cold it's not feasible to heat it any more. Then we move into the house.

We have water hook-up (but I still prefer just filling my fresh water tank and using it from there), and we have access to dump in our septic tank. We have two 30 amp RV outdoor receptacle boxes, a corn field and a bean field for our front and back yard neighbors, our dogs roam free, the grand kid (4 years old) still runs around naked outside, and at night ... it's dark.

It's a wonderful life! When we go camping to a commercial park, we always ask ourselves why we are subjecting ourselves to noisy neighbors 30 feet from our door, traffic running up and down the road in front of the camper, glaring lights at night when the dark around a campfire is so much more romantic and conducive for camping, having the neighbor campers playing their music which makes my stomach turn, and having other people running through our campsite.

When we experience these types of things, we simply look at each other and make a comment, something like, ... we sure don't experience THIS at home, do we!

Gotta love having your own place to call your own, somewhere stable, private, and still have all the joys of being able to use the camper when not visiting a campground somewhere!
  • We have a vacation cottage in the Adirondacks on a couple of lakeside acres that's been in the family since 1947. In 2005 we put in a full hookup RV site, and when we're in the area, that's where we park and hook up. We usually continue living in the motorhome though, only moving into the cottage occasionally for short periods while we're doing deep cleaning, maintenance, or remodeling on the coach that's easier done without us in it. Our daughters, grand kids, and great grand kids all live in the area, so we do visit there fairly often. Over the years we've also remodeled the cottage for year round living so it can serve as our "exit plan" when we finally have to hang up the keys.
