Did I miss the minimum wage rising to $15.00/hour? And what companies other than RV parks and the like provide housing? Make your minimum wage at Walmart and see how nice a campsite they provide.
We respect ALMOST all the volunteers, and some of the rangers. volunteers do a great job, and have made lasting relationships with them.
yes I do think they are taken advantage of in some places. I couldn't believe when I was told that they had to give 40 hrs a week. 20 for husband and wife, or 40 hrs if alone. 40 hrs x 15.00 "min wage" = 600 week.
yes they are being taken advantage of.
then too they have risen our daily rates, and booking fees.
Yes I will continue to camp until I drop, but it doesn't make it right.
God Bless America The "United ?? States" - Traver8ExplorerHello Vacuumbed,
I think that I am an example of what you are asking about except that I am living in my travel trailer and not driving it to work. In my case, I found a great job that was 200 miles from home. Apartments local to the job were crazy expensive and not readily available so we purchased the trailer specifically for me to live in while working.
At this point I have been living in it for 3 years and all is well. I was sure to find a floorplan that provided a good seating layout for TV viewing since I knew I would be using it a lot. The trailer has not been moving so nothing has bounced around and come apart. The RV park rental and trailer payment combined is still much less that an apartment would have been.
For me it has worked well.

Only issue I would have with that scenario is having to break camp every am so that I can drive that small rv to use to go to work.
That's what you are talking about...right?
Small RV is all you have for transportation so that means using it as daily driver also.
That would suggest some 'stealth' camping vs campground usage....correct?
Personally setting up every night after work day and then breaking camp every am to go to work would get OLD fairly fast.
Now with that good paying job you speak off buying a commuter vehicle and living in an RV set up in a CG. You bet! - 2oldmanExplorer II

Many folks don't read too carefully, and, you posted in Workamping, which is different from what you're talking about.
I have no idea how volunteering got introduced in to this thread. - vacuumbedExplorerGod thoughts naturist, thank you.
I have no idea how volunteering got introduced in to this thread. What I am doing has NOTHING to do with volunteering. - naturistNomad

Closest I've come is a one-month stint as a camp host in an NP campground an hour's drive away from the sticks 'n' bricks. But I have met a number of folks who've lived in an RV while on one job or another. Even met a couple once who were living in a tent, moving back and forth between two state park campgrounds because they both had 14 day rules.
Some of them loved it, some of them tolerated it, and some of them hated it.
I also met a guy whose job took him from city to city over a 4 state area spending a week at car dealerships. No two weeks at the same city, and while he had an apartment in one of the central cities, he said he had never stayed there for more than one night in a row. He was ok with the job and the travel, but was tired of living out of a suitcase, so we had a really long discussion about RVs. Unfortunately the auto maker for whom he worked insisted he drive one of their products. But they did make pickups, so maybe . . . . - 2oldmanExplorer IIMuch confusion here.

God Bless America The "United ?? States" - HondavalkExplorer IISeems like only a question you can answer. Without kids I could happily live in my camper. Don't see much difference between Full timers or living in one and going to work. That is other then the having to work part. :B:B
