Are you by chance referring to McAllen instead of McAllister? Good luck on finding a park with space between sites. Winter the population increases quite a bit. It has been a number of years since we were there, but crowds are common, didn't notice being unsafe, but you will find there are places you shouldn't go as any large city(s)
