New Hampshire domicile / residency? (No S&B)

Everything I've read, been told (by attorneys), and heard from NH people is that an RV park would NOT work. So, yes, that's why I'm renting s&b here!

It's really a great place - I've been here for the past few days and really enjoy calling NH home now :)

It certainly is.

When I set out on this thread to get input, though, the motivation was to see if I could find an overlap of an ideal home state and one that would save us money. I believe we found it. But the big snag was that domiciling is much harder in NH than in the Big 3. I've learned that it doesn't have to be hard, you just have to make domicile and residency the same for legal purposes. Once I feel I can put the words well, I'll put a full summary here.

Thanks to you (and everyone!) for challenging me on the issue. I was able to ask the tough questions today and get info that is helpful.

Yes, those two terms CAN overlap. Like they will for me for 6 months over the winter.

Well, all I can say is that those of us full timers with SD, Tx, and Fl domicile addresses don't have to 'read between the lines' or do anything else that we won't put in print here.

Maybe that's why those states are so popular ?

Absolutely. But if you read between the lines, there's still a valuable point here. I'm not going to say more than I should here. Domicile and residency can overlap in a very convenient way.

That's way different then full timing and needing a domicile address.

Domicile and residency are two different things.

UPDATE:

I spoke to a NH attorney today through my LegalShield membership, and NH residency is actually quite simple.

While you can NOT use a mailing service in NH as your residence, you can provide a lease agreement from a place you're renting as your home. It so happens that this is what I'll be doing.

That's it. Once something like that is done, you're a resident. You then have 60 days to get a license and register vehicles. Not bad.

More details coming, but for now, things are looking promising.

The Escapees RV Club began in 1978 by a wonderful full-timing couple (we've met them). They have done much for the RVing community, especially full-timers. We've used their mail service for 20 years and became very active members. Check it out:

They have a yearly Escapade (rally) and every year it's in a different location. This year it will be in Vermont so if you're nearby, go there and check it out.

In that case, if you're buying your own health insurance, then NH (+ SD & TX) are not good domicile states for full time RVers. I am assuming that you would want to buy your health care from the ACA exchange. That way you're eligible for a subsidy.

The ACA (i.e., "Obamacare") has changed the health care game. Probably the most significant (and most overlooked) change is that health care plans, options, and pricing are based on US counties. Think of counties as the new health care "group".

Generally, what full timers under 65 need is a PPO plan with a nationwide network (like BCBS). With a nationwide PPO, you typically do not have to pay out-of network costs ($$$) as you travel out of your domicile state.

Back to SD, TX, and NH . . .

Though these 3 states do have ACA exchange PPO plans in some (or all counties), the plans are not nationwide health plans.

However, you might want to check for off-exchange PPO nationwide plans -- ask Kyle at www.rverinsurance.com.
