I totally understand your concern, but my two cents about that is that I appreciate the extra security of someone having to at least join before looking all around the site and seeing where people are. You don't have to post your location, but I think that's one of the neat things about this community. Even though it hasn't been up long, I've met some neat folks that way and I'm enjoying the sense of fellowship I've found there. It has a more personal feel to it that I like.
As for the forums, they are there for every individual group, like those for special interests such as specific brand owners, activities, all kinds of stuff.
There are currently over 3,800 members and I'm shocked at how fast it's growing. I know a few of the people involved in the startup and have great respect for them.
I have no personal interest in the site other than as a member, so just wanted to share my perspective. :)
