First I want to say Hello.... I am new here even though I have been in and out of this website for years.... now I am finally sure of what I want.... and I have some questions....I have decided on a B.... I have very little stuff.....it's only for me.... not even a pet at this point. I'm 65.... and I been dragging my heels on doing this for the last 10 years.... now I feel I really know what size vehicle I want and what I want to do.simply put.... with NO family and no responsibilities.... I just want to drift... go to places I have not been and just hang out.I plan to stay in the west....I don't plan to do too many park stays.... prefer instead to be off on my own.I have been looking for B's that are open and airy.... do any of you full timing folks have any recommendations ?I am looking basically at 20ft or so.... I will also get over to the class B forum as well.thanks for any help.

Hi, Lonesome. I just got lucky and found a 2006 class b. It has plenty of windows and storage. I need to get used what is in it and get a few things looked at. Drives nicely and the interior is in great condition. Keep looking online and get inside several before you decide what you want. B's are hard to come by but keep going. You'll end up with one that's just right.

I agree with not focusing on parks too much. Check out MN along your journey. Our state parks are great and have very spacious sites. Boondockerswelcome.com too for places to park free. Good luck in the search.(Minnesota is laid back, you can park almost anywhere and no one will bother you. May-Oct are the best months to be here.)

The most light and airy ones I've seen were DIY conversions of cargo vans. I've seen some very neat ones. A lot of people do them on a tight budget. Which is fine at least to a point. But the ones who were willing to spend on good equipment had wonderful results IMO.If you have the budget for something new, go to Sportmobile in Texas and tell them what you want.

As for a bathroom, many people have a set up / take down shower. And I just use the porta potty out in the open, since I am the only one in the van. The whole van becomes my bathroom ;).

I do spend most of my awake hours outside. But I love to have all the windows at night, lie in bed and look at the stars. And the cat and I both enjoy watching the birds in the morning!

This is GREAT about the hanging bag trick. I have been wondering how hanging clothes work.... the bag is a wonderful idea.

I like light SOOO much. I have to be practical too so I guess that I will have to make some space on part of a wall for some taller closet and cabinets for hanging clothes etc.

Keep in mind that many live more "out of" a Class B than "in" one. You can step outside to take in the view or engage in various outdoor activities. In hot weather, many people keep the curtains closed (and/or add reflective material) to keep the unit cooler. Think carefully about giving up inside cabinets for windows that you might not use in the same way as in a "sticks & bricks" house.

You could also look at adding ac window or two to an existing B.

In order to skip a closet, I put hanging clothes in garment bags when moving, and hang on a rod over frnt seats when not. Different strokes :).

Yes... I realize thats the tradeoff but.... I like light SOOO much. I have to be practical too so I guess that I will have to make some space on part of a wall for some taller closet and cabinets for hanging clothes etc.

Thats if I do a custom build. Just not too sure at this point.... I have to check it all out and then decide based on what I find out there.... whether to build or not to build.

I have been binging on people's build threads on sportsmobilebileforum.com, the last few days. Expeditionportal is also good. Lotsa good info about adding windows. Or you can start with a passenger van, with windows all 'round.

WOW ! I would love to see some pics of your builds.... thats what I think too about the windows..... when in that small of a space.... I want LOTS of windows !
the B's i have looked at mostly all have a very closed in cramped feeling.
