Can you say State Income Tax?????? - EsoxLuciusExplorerBetter check health insurance availability in SD for fulltime RVing. Sanford will not insure those with a PMB.
- KlueckExplorerWe chose Florida for several reasons, but I did hear some issues with SD if you need to get Obamacare. It seems there are only a few choices at the SD exchange, and one of which wants 6-9 months of utility receipts to prove you are a real SD resident. Not too easy to do if you are fulltimer. One company offers health insurance for the state only. Also not too good if you want to leave the state.
A few years ago when we went full time, we took SD off the table right away because we didn't want to have to go back there every year or so to register the RV or get new drivers licenses, or jury duty. It can be a problem in the winter due to the weather.
Howard of the RV-Dreams blog did a good post about SD and the Obamacare issues. If you don't need it, you would be okay. He also has some good information about choosing your state of residence. - Cummins12V98Explorer IIIYour vehicle insurance is much cheaper in SD.

Can you say State Income Tax?????? - Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIAll of the above reasons were why we chose SD over TX plus my personal dislike.
I in good conscience could just not say "I'm a Texan".
With the enactment of ACA I just might have had to eat crow (if we were still FTng)
SD and 18 other states are not participating in multi-state plans under the Healthcare Law. All states are suppose to in the next 4 yrs. but at present non offered in SD (or FL) but multi-state plans are offered in TX. - musicman54Exploreroregon has no sales tax or vehicle inspection
- NoLookingBackExplorerWhen we went full time several years ago we choose SD because,
1. We were buying a new fifth wheel and 3% versus 7% sales tax.
2. No income tax in SD just like Tx.
3. Insurance is lower for both auto and medical. At the time SD was number 48 out 50 for cost of medical insurance.
4. No special license requirement and truck and trailer registration and license lower in SD.
5. Had located a good mail service which also handles our license and registration renewals without require us to travel to SD. - dons2346ExplorerI am a real Texan and chose SD for the above reasons plus insurance in SD was cheaper than TX

and SD does not require a special license and extra driver test, if your MH is over 26,000 lb, Tx does
minor differences for many, but if you have no other reason to prefer Tx, those are often enough to sway the choice to SD
SD does have one disadvantage, for those under medicare age who must provide their own private health insurance, there are fewer choices in SD.
