"4 free issues of Trailer Life" is not true
I'm surely not the first one to post this. I've been a member since May 2013 and have to do battle with Good Sam and Trailer Life every year to get my "4 free issues" of Trailer Life.
First year GS advised me to send a letter to TL at certain address with my member number and they extended the subscription to 16 months. Second year I was able to resolve after a LONG discussion with TL and again got 16 months for price of 12 as represented.
Now this year, both TL and GSC tell me that you do not get 4 free issues of the magazine if you are a subscriber. Both say you only get them if you are NOT a subscriber. (What?????????)
The 7"x16.5" quad-fold color brochure that came with my GS renewal bill in April of this year, form GSC25964_0614, clearly says "Members receive four FREE issues of their choice of either Motorhome or Trailer Life magazine ........., which includes...Highways....". The text clearly states 4 free issues of Trailer Life, which coincidentally contains the Highways inserts.
I've spent an hour on the phone this morning with TL and then GSC. GSC rep tried to stonewall me as TL did but then put me on hold for a long time and then came back and admitted the text is misleading and they have been requesting that it be changed for some time now. She offered either 12 months of free TL or GSC membership as an apology.
On the one hand, say what you mean and mean what you say. If this wording was a mistake then you would think GSC would be eager to correct it. If it continues to stand, then clearly it is meant to be misleading.
ON the other hand, how have I been able to bulldoze my way thru the phone trees and get the 16 months for the price of 12 as represented in 2013 and 2014, but now both organizations say it was never that way?????
GSC does almost as much unrelated marketing to us as AARP, everything from insurance to credit cards, but nothing makes me more disappointed in an organization than bait-and-switch tactics. After switching from GS roadside assistance to Coachnet this year, there are less and less reasons to continue to belong to this organization. I am very disappointed in the experience this morning.
