Agree with TRAILERTRASHX2
Everybody should Just be careful! rejoycefree is in complete agreement with trailertrashX2, who only had reasonable expectations which GS encourages / promises with their printed materials. Oh, westernrvparkowner, your turn at bat is coming up! Worse than Karma headed your way! As SNL Church Lady used to ask, "Could it be SATAN?" Talking to some of these cruel posters is like trying to make polite conversation with a water buffalo, don't you think? All it takes is competent imaginations to fill in a lot of gaps that takes up so much time and space to give detailed explanations. But I gave it a try, and I think it is mostly a wasted effort. But not in ALL cases. Some posters GET IT, without a moment's hesitation.
My husband was admitted to an Albuquerque NM hospital yesterday. Prior to yesterday, We had made 3 ER trips trying to ward off negative effects from stressful, painful, terrifying ordeal I call Highway Robbery in Ardmore OK! Indeed I feel that GS could have / should have done waaaay better by us! JUST A MEASLY 10 MILE TOW, for goodness sake! I have been so worried about my husband that I think perhaps I might have been incoherent in trying to express the horror that we had experienced on these threads or posts. Read my posts and my unsuccessful attempts to answer cruel critics such as westernrvparkowner who wants my husbands liver with fava beans! That poster is sicker than my beloved husband, is he not?
We ONLY NEEDED A 10 mile TOW into town. 2 disabled elderly people left stranded on hwy by GS. Paid for Platinum Plus Roadside Assistance membership. We needed a 10 mile TOW into town, where we could get a motel room to tend to immediate medical needs of husband, elevate legs & take meds & rest. Did NOT need to be taken to ER or medical facility resulting in thousands of dollars unnecessarily. Would have cause a major inconvenience for out of town emergency medical service. We maintain all medical supplies and medicines necessary in our vehicle. Our camper is basically a MOBILE BATHROOM and health lab. Both husband & spouse need immediate access to toilet, as symptoms of disabilities often dictate. Spouse/caregiver live bathroom to bathroom breaks; & plane flights cause added complications. We travel by truck camper to various medical facilities to avoid discomfort, unpleasantness, embarrassment and health complications. We don't / can't do recreational travel. We've successfully had to do this for about 2 years because of husbands serious ill health issues. Did not need to be taken to emergency medical facility AT THAT TIME, and We did NOT want to leave our vehicle on side of hwy where it might get impounded by DOT & taken to who knows where til who knows when and how expensive? Could get stolen, etc. Just so many variables with possible negative impacts if we left our vehicle unattended.
We had our truck thoroughly inspected by a certified mechanic (as usual) before leaving Albuquerque for such a long trip. We only needed a SIMPLE emergency assistance plan. That is why we only purchased Platinum Plus. We didn't need a BIG Rig or Tractor to rescue us. In the end, All it took was a compassionate person who had a heavy chain! Thank GOD! rejoycefree agrees with trailertrashX2. We could then safely wait till next day for vehicle to be repaired. We planned to dial 911 only when absolutely necessary (as I almost did do). A stranger (Rick) drove up, dragged our vehicle into town with a heavy chain, and saved our lives. GS had told us to wait until tomorrow, but my husband couldn't WAIT. I called 411 to get various numbers of TOW Truck services, but all those numbers given to us and that I called were wrong numbers? ? ? After 6 hours, In desperation, I did begin dialing 911, when suddenly the stranger appeared and pulled us to safety in town, where we got a motel room. I informed GS of our new location & GS said they'd tow our truck to a repair facility early next morning first thing!
However, Next morning, GS had forgotten about us. We called GS again and Buddy's Tow Service (a 24/7 service) towed our truck to a repair shop. The TOW Service was owned by the Auto Repair Shop that we were towed to (GET IT YET?). Shop charged for diagnostics and said they had to order parts. Shop waited till end of day after closing hours, to inform us that our truck was inoperable and permanently disabled. Shop offered $200 for inoperable truck, but we declined. Shop owner said he did not want us to leave empty handed! Shop knew we needed to get back to NM quickly to make an important medical appt. We had explained my husbands need to quickly get back to Albuquerque. We had to leave our truck at shop overnight while we tried to figure out what we were going to do next? But, why did shop order parts and charge labor for installing parts on a DEAD truck? We were suspicious and skeptical, but we didn't have time to argue over truck's sudden demise! Is anybody able to put the pieces of the puzzle together yet?
I started trying to find a U-haul truck & transport to haul our truck back to NM. We were told that None were available. We then decided to store our truck somewhere safely while we rented a vehicle to get us back to NM asap. Enterprise Car Rental would NOT rent us a car ONE WAY back to NM. We were basically trapped in Ardmore OK and terrified out of our minds! Yep, I was an emotional wreck and crying to high heaven. WHEN suddenly Rick, the stranger who had saved us in the first place saved us again. He loaned us his Tahoe to get back home because he felt compassion over our tragic situation. Good and Evil in this world and we experienced both at the same time right there in Ardmore OK. All ya'll, need to be careful about this kind of highway robbery!
We returned to shop the following morning and had to pay $589.26 to retrieve our truck and have it towed to a safe place. Shop owner said and wrote on invoice that the truck needed a new engine. Rick, the Good Samaritan stranger said he had a certified mechanic Business Associate/Friend who would inspect our truck while we were gone back to NM. If a new engine was needed, he'd help us with that too! He'd get our truck repaired and we could pay for it when we returned to Ardmore. Thank God again!
We left Ardmore in a totally exhausted and emotional state. Sadly, my husband missed his important noon medical appt. when we got back late to Albuquerque. Awful repercussions because of that! While going through awful medical follow ups back home in NM, we received an exciting phone call from Rick in Ardmore who had saved us and loaned us his Tahoe. His friend, a certified mechanic, was out test driving the truck after having installed a catalytic converter. Installing a new engine had been our original thinking of repair of our truck. Rick exclaimed, "Your truck runs GREAT!" So, GS gave us the shaft and then unloaded or delivered us into the hands of a possible chop shop, did they? The delay in time was the most deadly to us! Just WATCH OUT, everybody!
We rely on Feedback, forums, and other resources to be factual about products and services, so that we can be informed consumers when we choose a product or service to purchase. Could there be GS Ringers on the forum threads? GS should state that their roadside service can only be utilized Monday thru Friday if that is so? GS should state that travelers may be required to WAIT a day or two to get rescued off road or hwy if that is so? GS should state that Platinum Plus doesn't always abide by mile radius agreement or other contract promises due to various factors. I thought that I had purchased a reliable and safe "peace of mind" assurance, didn't you? We tried to be careful in selecting the LEVEL of GS Roadside Emergency Service that we might need. We are trying to give readers HONEST FEEDBACK about this GS Service/product. Readers need reliable feedback to become informed consumers!
