This is a story of what has transpired over the last 6 hrs. My daughter had called stating she had no brakes. She was able to get off the road into a secure parking lot. I advised here to call GSRSA. She spoke to women who said she would line up a tow for her. Great. The advisor called back stating tha arrangment was made for a tow. However it was expected to take 1.5 hrs. My daughter agreed. At about the second hour of waiting my daughter had called me to ask what she should do. The tow company had not arrived yet. Thankfully the Good Sam advisor had supplied the name and phone number of the towing company. She called and was told that the truck was stuck in traffic it would be an additional 45 minutes. She agreed to wait. What else could she do. I came home from work expecting a phone call to pick my daughter up from a repair facility. After 3hrs and 30 mins. my daughter called crying not knowing what to do. I called the Good Sam advisor who inturn called the towing company again. This time they had told the advisor they were stuck in traffic as well. The advisor called me back reasuring me that the towing company would be there soon. So we continued to wait. Twenty minutes later the Good Sam Advisor called me to inform me that the Towing company had informed Good Sam that they themselves had brocken down. And that they would be unable to fulfill the towing obligation that they had said they would, almost 4 hrs earlier. The Good Sam advisor stated that she was going to need to find another towing company. TO LATE. This is the second example of the type of towing companys Good Sam is contracting. This ordeal today took place 30 mins from my home. My 20 year old daughter comuting back and forth to college gets stuck on the side of the road for over 4 . Thats just not right. Being close to home we were all aware of the traffic conditions through out the day. Being caught in traffic was nothing more than excuse.I have been a member since 2001. I have used the service several times through out the years. This is the third time myself or a member of my family has called only to be let down by unreputable companys furnished through GSRSA. I am DONE. The name of the Towing Company today was ALL Over Towing. Located some where near this disaster of a day.
  • Lousy response for sure.........

BUT (ordeal today took place 30 mins from my home. My 20 year old daughter)
Why didn't you go get daughter wen you got home from work...........or gone by on your way home from work :H

    Yep........lousy response for sure
  • Sorry for your experience. I have used GSERS 3 times over the last 10 years with very acceptable service, once even delivered me home after the truck was towed. Might be a regional thing.
  • I will never have a need for GSRSA. My auto insurance agent says I am covered for any towing incident and don't have to rely on someone else picking my tow truck. Relief.
  • Tom Orlowski,

Thank you for your post, and I am sorry to hear about your daughter's situation today. If you could please send me a Private Message with your Good Sam Roadside Assistance membership number, as well as good contact information, I will be sure to have one of our Roadside Assistance Coordinators call you after reviewing the circumstances. Please let me know.

  • I dropped GSRS almost a year ago. My experience is that they contract with whoever is the cheapest, not whether they are a reliable business.

Stuck in traffic for 4 hours, yeah right.

My experience with Coach Net has been way better service. Much more reliable service.
  • This is the problem. It is my belief that Good Sam is not hiring reliably towing companys. When the call first went out for assistance, it was GSRSA reply that they had a very limited pool if you will of towing companys to choose from. To say AAA uses the same towing companys to provide service I would have to disagree. Sometimes possible. But not always. And their was no traffic. I believe you too would be just a little agitated if you was told an hour and a half wait. And it turned out to be 4 hrs. Bottom Line. Your membership is paid to someone to handle your problem. If they Cannot. Then you are not getting your moneys worth.
  • Paragraphs are helpful. ;)

Sorry about the ordeal. Being "stuck in traffic" for that long seems unlikely and I hope GS crosses them off their call list. One would think that GS would have ways to check the companies they use. It certainly doesn't reflect well on them to call unreliable service.
  • And what should Good Sam have done? Sent a helicopter to avoid the traffic? Hired a psychic to ascertain that the tow company wasn't being completely honest? AAA, Coachnet, your auto insurance company and any other roadside assistance provider will be using the same tow companies. There isn't one tow company attached to Good Sam and a competing tow company next door affiliated with AAA. You got bad service, but it was almost exclusively the fault of the tow provider (and maybe the traffic).
