Cancellation of Roadside Service for using 6 times in 3 yrs

Well, I just received a letter of cancellation for my Good Sam Roadside Assistance. My card states that I've been a member for 3 years now and apparently I've used my service too much. To my recollection I have used the service 4 times, although Good Sam states that I've used it 6 times. I just wanted to warn folks who have Good Sam Roadside Service, it's a decent service as long as you don't use it. 2 tows and 2 tire changes, from my recollection, constitutes a cancellation. Even if I had used it 6 times in the 3 years as a member, as the service stated, I don't see an abuse of the service. I used it as the need arose, isn't that what your supposed to do with this kind of service? So, just a heads up folks, don't use your Good Sam Roadside Service or you'll get cancelled.

Honestly, AAA has a better roadside service and I'll be going back to them. I only went with Good Sam due to the RV service, but they use odd tow companies and it takes a fair amount of time to be serviced. AAA responds very quickly with more reputable providers.

  • If you had 6 claims in 3 years your auto insurance would be cancelled too or premiums so high you would leave anyway. I agree. If you have 6 claims in 3 years you are a bad risk and should perhaps change your ways so you have fewer claims.
  • Too much use will get you cancelled from most. Even AAA has limits on how often you can use them.

And if you use them repeatedly for the same problem, they see that as you not fixing the problem because you can just call them to handle it. Things like a dead battery - if you don't replace the battery or fix the wiring so it recharges, they won't keep coming to jumpstart you. At some point, they say "enough".

At least they haven't lobbied for laws requiring you to have roadside service so they can charge you exorbitant prices to cover you...
  • Unfortunately I would agree you are an excessive user based on 6 times in 3 years.
Twice a year is a lot in my mind. In the end the numbers just won't add up. They cannot afford to keep you.
Assuming your dues are $150.00 per year and your service calls were at least $200.00 per year. If you were actually towed your service call fees are actually higher.
Using the above numbers they lost $50.00 per year on your membership.
No one is in business to lose money. At some point they must cut their losses.
Looks like they drew the line at 3 years.

    Like things will change
  • Just like health insurance companies don't want sick people enrolled , ERS doesn't want someone who might actually use that service.

Not always. I left AAA for exactly the same reasons as you are criticizing Good Sam.

And this is an insurance policy. The insurance company holds ALL of the cards and can cancel you at any time....for any reason or for no reason. That applies regardless of who the company IS......although I don't remember hearing about cancellations like this from AAA.....or Coachnet, which is where I will go at the first sign of trouble with Good Sam.
  • Increasingly, anything branded Camping World or Good Sam will have very poor customer service and even have policies that take money or at least take advantage of their customer.
