Changes in Highways magazine

Did you happen to notice all the other "Highways" threads before starting another one?

As for changes benefiting you, Good Sam is a for profit corporation that does what is best for the owners, not the customers, oops I mean members.

A company that does what is best for the owners and not the customers does so right up to the point that it has no customers anymore. I find this entire subject to be absurd. Anyone calling out someone as having "FAILED miserably in every way possible" over a MAGAZINE needs a reality check. YOU ARE STILL GETTING THE CONTENT OF HIGHWAYS MAGAZINE. How many times does this have to be explained? How in the world are you harmed by this change?

In my opinion, no one can objectively look at the work that Mr. Lemonis has done as the CEO and conclude anything other than he has a personal passion for his job and that he is motivated by doing the right thing. You can see that in his removal of BP products from stores after the oil spill (which I didn't agree with personally), you can see that in his Secret Millionaire appearance, and you can see that in the time he spends to respond to people personally on this site.

His job is to act in the best interest of >1.7 million members, his employees, and his shareholders. Frankly, I think he is doing a pretty dang good job of it. It is a job that most people here, including myself, couldn't last a month in.

The hardest job that we as members have is influencing change by getting our collective voices heard when it comes to influencing the direction of a company. To get the pulse of a membership of millions, a company has to try to discover and filter the real collective voices from all of the noise. Flame throwing posts like this do NOTHING to help that. Nothing.

Global warming has a lot of members in a "ranting" mood. We need to get out there and camp!

Well said. These people are making much ado about nothing. I don't see how anybody will be harmed in any way.

Got an email today that says the Highways magazine will now be available as an insert every quarter in either Trailer Life or Motorhome Life, and that you get your choice of those two with four free issues a year, one each quarter.

Never subscribed to either of those, and always used to get Highways as an e-publication, so not sure (yet) if we can get electronic delivery of this new package.

The law obligates corporations to maximize profits for shareholders. They do have to walk a tightrope between maximizing profits, being socially responsible, and serving customers.

I agree 100%. It appears that Mr. Lemonis tries to do what is best for all, but his legal obligation is to the ownership. He has been on a successful mission to turn the company around and has made it profitable again.

I don't agree that there is a legal obligation to maximize profits for shareholders. A company has a fiduciary obligation to the shareholders, which is rough terms means to "act in the best interest of" a business's shareholders. Acting in their best interest doesn't always mean maximizing their profit and is often subject to the opinions of those involved. An example of this would be the decision by Southwest Airlines to forgo certain and immediate profits by not charging bag fees despite all of their competitors doing so. Another example would be those that believe that the Softbank acquisition of Sprint is a better value for Sprint shareholders than the Dish Network offer despite the Dish offer clearly being for more immediate money.

Shareholder value and shareholder profit are different things in my opinion.

I have a hard time seeing how this is NOT better! Do you prefer to get all the advertisements in the highways magazine? You are getting more actually with the way they will start doing it. You are getting the same content from the highways magazine (minus the ads), plus you are getting another free magazine 4 times a year to boot.

How in the hell can that not be better?
