Unfortunately, that's the deal with coupons. They aren't meant for you to get what you want when you want it. They are meant to get you back in the store to buy stuff you wouldn't have bought otherwise - usually because they are about to expire and you don't need anything or they don't have what you want. It'd be an unusual retail business to extend the coupon so you can buy a specific item that they haven't been able to get in the store for 3 months.
While I understand the frustration, I have learned that coupons, rebates, special incentives, etc. should not be calculated at to whether you sign with a company or buy a product. If it's not a good price/deal in its own merit, then no coupon, rebate, incentive, etc. will change that because of all the loopholes.
