Good Sam ESP does not allow the use of used parts for the repair or replacement of failed components. The Policy wording is:
"Replacement will be made with like kind and quality to include rebuilt or remanufactured parts. Parts may be upgraded to “new” at owner’s expense."
In practice, this means that we will replace an engine or transmission with a rebuild engine or transmission as long as that rebuilt meets the same standards as a new one ("like kind") For most other components, there are no rebuilt or remanufactured that meet the "Like kind" requirement, and therefore new components are authorized.
If a policy holder insists on a new engine rather than a rebuilt that meets the same standards, they would be required to pay the difference in cost. And of course the rebuilt component is covered by ESP against failure going forward.
