- AllegroDNomadMark,
Yes. We can see that the threads are still readable.
This is just curiosity. Why the policy to close after no activity? Non activity is the same as it being closed, without anyone having to be concerned with it. Topics without more posts just fade away, anyway. - Good_Sam_Care_TExplorer IITo All,
Thank you again for your time and postings. Please note even if a thread is closed you still have the ability to read the postings within this thread. You also can start a new thread about the same issue if you would like. But when a thread has no activity for 5 to 10 days it will be closed. Again the threads closed yesterday were not deleted. If any of you have questions or concerns please send me a PM. I would be happy to address your concerns.
Thank you,
Mark
Rapid Response Team - 4X4DodgerExplorer IIMore to the point of closing threads vs letting them die...this is an interesting question. I too have noticed the tendency of some moderators to close certain threads while leaving other more obnoxious ones go on to die a natural death.
All threads will have a very short half life generally speaking and wither and die usually very soon as they fall down the topics list.
I have noticed that there is at least one moderator who shall remain nameless that routinely either deletes comments or closes threads by certain members even though the thread has clearly not run it's course.
The most suspect reason I see from some moderators for closing a thread is that it "had nothing more to say". This is usually a sign to me that the moderator just disagrees with the thread altogether.
I think it should be the policy to let threads die a natural death unless they clearly violate either the spam rule, language or advertising rules.
Too often I find that some moderators...only a very few, cannot seem to distinguish between Satire and Sarcasm, and don't seem to understand the differences between Irony, Analogy, Euphemism and Metaphor and at times have mistaken them for being OFF Topic comments when in fact they were some of the most telling and ON-Topic comments made in the whole thread.
Do the moderators have to pass a basic English test?
In general I agree many threads are closed too soon and sometimes it seems as if there is an agenda lurking in the background. - 4X4DodgerExplorer II

It's NOT their Dime it's OUR dime, the users who are also members and customers of CW, GSRSA, and the Good Sam Club pay for this site just like everything else at GSE, by giving them our money for goods and services. This forum is just one of the ways they use that income. - RoyBExplorer IIThis will surely come back to haunt the research of things if this is going to be a trend... I for one like to go back and look up things that have already been experienced with certain items... Everything that is posted is still on the internet somewhere and all you need to know is how to look for it...
A couple users on here have got this down to a science and can come up with many threads on any given subject and link as information... I can find most of my older posts by searching for a couple of unique words in my signature line like 'k9pht 14RT'. Used together produces about 99% of only my previous posts... This works out great for finding older photos that has passed through my posts. I actually use this found feature to my advantage and this becomes my on-line storage of photos of things that seem to be asked alot by new users... I just simply type in my two unique words into google search and when it loads up I select 'IMAGES'. There they all are in many pages of photos already with the HTTP addresses assigned to be included as an image in my posts... Almost click click and click haha...
However it is not our forum and we are only users of it... The forum owners probably see alot of threads they would like to totally delete for one reason or another.
Roy Ken - TvovExplorer IIAnd the threads are only a bit more than a week old? Odd, but, oh well.
- beemerphile1ExplorerI thought it rather odd also. Threads normally are allowed to die of natural causes.
