for the GS folks

Just a question about a repair I had recently.
My frig quit cooling, and finally got a apt in a shop, they looked at it and it needed a new cooling unit, and ice maker, and whatever else.
GS paid the claim without delay, as far as I know. My question comes from the fact that the shop doing the work used a different cooling unit, not the frig manufacturer, will it still be covered under warranty if I continue my policy. It was all handled by the shop and GS, so I would assume it will be since I was never given the option to use manufacturer replacement. Actually was never told or asked anything. Got home and turned on the frig and it worked fine, so I didn't even open the outside cover. Did that yesterday, just cleaning up a bit, and it is an aftermarket brand. Looks fine, and if it works I have no issue at all. But don't want it to fail and find out its not covered.
Also, the shop is not one I would recommend. For many other reasons other than this. Horrible at communications, will not return a phone call, two items that I paid to fix are not working, and they left a heavy tape residue on the side of the RV and would not even return that phone call to recommend a product for taking it off.
If you need serv in the Nacodoches Tx area feel free to pm or email me, I will tell you who they are.

I did call GS, got a couple shops names, and went with these guys because I only had the wait a month to get in. The other shop had a three month wait for an appt. Having said that, sure would be a good idea for someone to open a RV repair shop in the Nacogdoches, Tx area. They are always backlogged.
I thought going in that it was going to be a good experience, but should have known when I inquired about putting the RV on consignment there and they quoted way below the book value for my RV. Not sure I understand why a sales business would low ball a potential customer, with no inventory cost I would have thought the mistake would be on the high side, not 35-50k to the low side.
I also think the only reason they did not satisfy me is they seem to be extremely unorganized. Very typical here in east Tx though. It is very laid back here, great for retirement, but absolutely nuts if you need something done.
I actually have another issue with the RV, but am going to wait till the end of summer to have it addressed on our way back from our summer trip. Not going to do it around here for sure!! It is only the dash heater/ac vent seems to be unable to switch between vents, so we can live with that because we will be sitting in the same spot for four months once we get up there. Unless we take a trip between now and then, at which point we may look into trying to get into a shop somewhere else.
Again thanks for the replies, I used Goo Gone to get the residue off, followed by a good cleaning and wax to the area. Just had neck surgery. so it wasn't easy, but got it done.
  • "they left a heavy tape residue on the side of the RV..."

If you've got access to Avon's Skin So Soft use that. It removes the gray, sticky, gummy -like tape residue from your body, rv, or whatever with no bad affects. Good stuff.

  • RandandDoug,
Yes, your refrigerator will continue to be covered by Good Sam ESP regardless of the brand of the replacement brand of the cooling unit.

In the future, if you call us first before you head to the repair shop, we can refer you to a Good Sam Preferred Provider in your area. These are repair facilities that have a track record with Good Sam, stand behind their work, agree to bill us directly and do quality work. It might make your next repair experience better all the way around!
