Good Sam believed repair shop instead of me
I bought the roadside assistance plan because with an older (but new to me) motorhome, being stranded somewhere was a real possibility. I drove it home and made an appointment at a local repair shop to have them check it out. I had it there the evening before the appointment, but it was a week before they looked at it and another week before they "fixed" the one problem I really felt I needed done before using it to drive to an eclipse viewing site. Meanwhile, I got tired of their delays and lies that "it was going to be done today" and made an appointment at a different shop. But when I got my keys back and got in to drive it over, it absolutely wouldn't start. Not a flicker of a turn over, not even a dim glow from the lights. I told them about the problem first thing the next morning (the day before my appointment at new place) and they assured me they would look at it first thing. When they hadn't even looked at it by noon (as I expected, given their previous lies and delays), I called Good Sam to arrange a tow. The rep took the information and called me back after calling the shop. Then she said since it was at a shop that was "willing and able" to do the repairs, GS would not pay for a tow! I pointed out that they had had it for 2-1/2 weeks already, how long did GS expect me to wait? She said if they even thought they would look at it in a couple of weeks, GS would accept that, but she had been assured that "the boss" would look at it as soon as he got back from lunch. Needless to say, by the time a tow truck arrived (that I was stuck paying for) at 3:30, no one, boss or not, had even looked at my motorhome. (I was sitting in my car across the street from where my MH was parked, and had been parked for days, right by a city "1/2 hour parking" sign.)
Sure hope they enjoyed saving that money. They have lost me as a customer forever.
