Good Sam Campground Directory—To Big

I feel the book is way too big, also, and dividing at the Mississippi would be great. A lot of pages could be eliminated by taking out all the travel stuff. It's geared for the big cities anyway and that's not where we go. We like the small towns. It's supposed to be a campground directory. If I want travel ideas I'll go to the local travel bureau online for up-to-date information including calendar of events so I know what festivals, etc. are coming up.

Just curious, didn't Woodalls a while back have two directories and if so, how was it divided and did they both cost the same?

Also, we have no need for an app for the directory. We don't have a smart phone and many times not even internet while traveling down the country roads.

Don't want it on CD; much prefer the book. We often choose the overnight stop while underway. Much easier for the DW to use the book than a computer at that time.

I do not see why this book can not be put onto a CD as was the old Trailer Life CD. Yes the app is nice but I have found it somewhat hard to use, maybe just me.

Yes, the book is big and heavy and will tear in half if you pick it up wrong. As soon as I get the new one each year, I tape the binding laterally and vertically with duct tape. Holds together while in use in the RV. Two books would be nice but each would probably cost the same as the one big book due to production costs. However, perhaps GS could offer the books separately so we could buy the one covering the area where we expect to spend most of our time. Dividing the country along the Mississippi River would be logical. On the other hand, this could reduce GS advertising revenue and elevate the cost of the book beyond affordability.

I find the book is so big and heavy, it is hard to hold. Smaller type is not an option though.

I use it exclusively for campgrounds,so don't see value with the travel information for each state. I have many other sources for that already.

It may be that you are getting advertising revenue for some of that, but whatever non-campground material that could be eliminated would help make it smaller.

I work on the Good Sam RV Travel Guide & Campground Directory and wanted address a couple of the points raised in this thread.

When our two brands, Woodalls and Trailer Life Directory, were merged the resulting Good Sam directory is almost the same in size. We kept the most popular format and content from both brands.

To split the book into two separate editions for East and West would at this time incur additional production costs and therefore higher retail prices.

If you are a AAA member, we do still produce the Woodalls|AAA regional directories that are available exclusively through AAA offices.

We do hear all the feedback and always take it into consideration when in production for new editions.

Woodalls is now incorporated in the HUGE Good Sam Directory. There is no Woodalls directory. I vote for 2 books.

Woodalls had several regional directories which is the format I prefer.

Not everyone has an i-phone or android!
