Good Sam Card/

We are getting ready for a trip, and I wanted to ask about the use of the Good Sam discount card at Flying Js. The last time we took a trip, I tried to use it at one Flying J, and they told me they were no longer used or needed because the same number was on the Flying J card. I tried it at another Flying J, and they told me did not know anything about them. This was last June. Why are Flying Js so ignorant about the Good Sam discount cards? This was in California.
