Most roadside assistance policies only cover tows to the nearest repair facility. When you are a long way from anywhere, there isn't going to be a lot of tow operators in the area. I would imagine it would be more difficult to find one willing and able to tow a truck with a trailer attached. It's not the roadside assistance companies fault you were traveling in an area where there was no nearby Dodge Dealer, or that you have an extended service policy that is not honored by the nearest repair facility.
I actually think that $5.00 per mile is a reasonable charge for the tow. You have to consider the fuel they use (and they have to travel round trip, not just to the service location) and the time they spend. A 50 mile additional tow will easily use 20 to 30 gallons of fuel and take three hours, during which time they are unavailable to make other tows, upsetting the next person in line who finds there is a three hour wait for a tow. It sounds like Good Sam did exactly what they were supposed to do.
X2 Some posters, not referring to this one, seem to expect Good Sam to fix whatever goes wrong, in ten minutes or less, for free, and whether the issue is covered by Good Sam or not.
