Good Sam insurance-repair/replacement question

I am looking through complaints about Good Sam insurance.....basically extended warranty, but they call it something like extended "Service".............so my question is, if you there is not replacement part for, let's say your inverter panel and you have to replace the entire panel, I have heard that Good Sam will only give you the cost of the part toward replacing the unit and will not actually replace the whole unit........is that correct? I am thinking about this because I had an issue with my fridge and they couldn't get the part, so I had to get a new fridge installed (this was NOT a Good Sam policy), which involved A) a new fridge and B) taking out the window to get the old one out and new one installed. It cost me a total of $200 for that..........additionally, I did have a problem with the inverter and couldn't get the part and they put a whole new unit in.......again $200......and again, not a Good Sam policy. But my problem is, I am looking at a new coach at Camping World and obviously, they only sell Good Sam Policies.......so don't want to get stuck with huge bills that they won't pay, because that is the main reason you buy a policy in the first place!

So, what is the truth about what Good Sam would pay in both of those instances?

  • With out the specific clause they have the right to not cover it.
  • That's the problem.......the way they write it! I am looking over what the PDF they have posted of a "sample" policy and......well, lets just say, it's vague at best. Still looking for that specific clause that says they will or will not replace an item if it can't be repaired.

I looked through that and it doesn't really say if they will replace the item if they no longer make the part. So, my question is will Good Sam replace the item, if they can no longer get the part to repair it?

From that link, it looks like they won't, but I just want to confirm that, because if that's the case, I'll just save my money!

ALWAYS the first rule, warranty companies aren't in business to lose money

If it isn't in specific writing do not trust it.

  • Good Sam has an excellent information page on their extended warranties- they'll even show you a sample contract. Specific coverages are very well spelled out.
Here's the link to that page.
