Thank you for your time and post. With all apple apps you will be notified that a update is available. At that point you would need to update the app in the app store. Hope this helps, if you need any future help just let us know.

In the iPad settings for iTunes & App store there should be a setting for Automatic Downloads that you can set to have app updates applied automatically.

A hard copy directory probably is printed annually and also has a long lead time. Thus a hard copy directory may be outdated before it is ever delivered with eight months old information.

The advantage of the digital/online age is that information can be updated almost instantly. Is this something that is done or is the app likely to be updated once a year together with the hard copy?

Hummmm! I just checked the apple store for GS iPad app and nothing other one for the phone showed up.

You can use iphone apps on your ipad.

Hopefully more than once a year. Just like on the iphone (if you have one). Your app icon will tell you when you have updates available. That is if you don't have it set to automatically update. When you see that it is showing app updates are available, then update them.
